About ForestSTATS

To value and understand the Portuguese forestry sector, it is necessary to characterize it through numbers, with statistical data being an important tool to achieve this objective.

However, information relating to this sector is dispersed across several entities and made available in different formats, in geographic files and in written reports, making data difficult to extract. Such aspects affect the transmission of knowledge and the decision-making processes of interested agents.

Taking this issue into account, the ForestSTATS digital platform was developed to compile, organize, systematize and communicate forestry sector data and indicators from various public data sources. It is an online platform, open and free for users.

The creation of ForestSTATS encourages:

  1. Sharing of information between entities;
  2. Generation of new types of additional thematic information;
  3. Better planning and decision-making in forestry sector activities.

The data published in ForestSTATS comes from various official and certified sources (see list of sources on the “Links” page). Transparency is a commitment of ForestSTATS and, for this reason, the source of the data is duly referenced with the respective metadata published on the platform.

ForestSTATS was developed within the scope of one of the transForm Agenda projects, financed through component C5 of the PRR - Recovery and Resilience Plan, dedicated to business capitalization and innovation.

The user must consult the metadata sheet for each variable to ensure proper citation of both the variable and the platform. Data queries and information retrieval conducted within this platform are presumed to be carried out by the User, absolving ForestSTATS of any responsibility arising from the abusive or fraudulent use of the information obtained.
